Summer 2021 - Phoenix Riverside Residency Programs and Productions

What are we doing this summer?

With the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, we once again decided to pursue a different path for summer 2021. We put our heads together and came up with the idea of just following our original mission to allow young artists the opportunity to create art on the grounds of the former American Shakespeare Theater alongside the lovely Housatonic River. And viola! The Phoenix Riverside Summer Residency Program and Productions was born.

We reached out to alumni and other young artists seeking proposals for two week projects which would culminate in some type of public performance. Our inbox overflowed with creative and exciting proposals and we are delighted to announce that we will be welcoming nine groups of artists to Stratford this summer to live together, work together, create together and to perform together.

The projects include traditional and modern adaptations of Shakespeare, as well as new plays, multi media presentations and even a radio show! Please join us on the grounds this summer to see the joy of creativity - arising out of the ashes of the pandemic, much like a Phoenix.
